This presentation is about the Overbrook Environmental Education Center’s work to demonstrate strategies that promotes healthier, more resilient communities in Philadelphia’s vulnerable neighborhoods with the use of sustainable practices. Philadelphia is the sixth largest city in the United States (behind New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Phoenix), with a racially and ethnically diverse population (estimated at 1,567,442, in 2015). Meet at Valley Green Inn This hike takes participants along Forbidden Drive and on wooded trails with interesting geologic formations. Visit the Livezey Dam, Gorgas Creek Cave, and Fingerspan Bridge. We will stop to enjoy our snacks and continue on to Devil’s Pool and Pee Wee Rock on return to the Valley Green Inn. 2.2 miles. Last year, several sightings of coyotes, coydogs/wolves, and foxes in Wissahickon Valley Park prompted Friends of the Wissahickon to question how to be good neighbors to these wild urban canines, and how to improve safety for park visitors.
