Martin Luther King Jr. Volunteer Day of Service (Rescheduled)
April 20 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Meeting at Thomas Mansion (6245 Wissahickon Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19144)
This event was rescheduled from 1/21/19. Thomas Mansion in Germantown is a historic property built in 1869 by George Clifford Thomas and his wife Caroline Sheetz. The property, which once boasted beautifully landscaped gardens and a green house, needs lots of regular maintenance to keep from becoming overgrown. For each of the last two MLK days, we’ve worked on the mansion grounds by clearing the overgrown invasive plants along the driveway, a project we will continue on this year. We decided to reschedule this date, which is typically our Earth Day Service Day, as this is a perfect pairing to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, as well as his leadership on environmental justice.
Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” By volunteering at Thomas Mansion, we will be giving back to our park, it’s users, and the plants and animals that rely on it to live.
