Hiking with Maura the Explorer
December 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Meet at the Blue Bell Field Parking Lot
Join FOW Executive Director Maura McCarthy for a hike each month. She will tour a different section of the Wissahickon during each hike and talk about her park experiences, as well as point out any recent improvements by FOW. Bring your hiking shoes and be ready to share your favorite Wissahickon stories with her!
Using the narrow access trail off of the parking lot we will make our way to Historic RittenhouseTown. There we will be taking the paved trail passing underneath the Henry Avenue Bridge to meet the Yellow Trail. We will hike the Yellow Trail for a short period seeing Hermit’s Cave. At Lovers Leap we will take a connector trail to Blue Stone Bridge to head South on Forbidden Drive. Once on Forbidden Drive we will meet back up with the paved trail and take the Orange Trail back to Blue Bell Field. Level: Moderate Distance: 2+ Miles.
Registration is recommended for all hikes (required if indicated) so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Long pants are recommended for protection against occasional poison ivy and possible ticks. Bring water and a snack if desired. Unless otherwise noted, children over six are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions.
