Bamboo Removal Workday
May 5, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Meet at the Hermitage (near the Hermit Lane trailhead)
Bamboo is an attractive grass (that’s right, it’s a grass) that grows very densely and quickly, making it a popular choice when home owners are looking for a natural barrier to a noisy road or close neighbors. However, bamboo is a non-native plant that quickly out competes native plants and offers little to no resources to native animals. It easily escapes yards and begins invading our natural spaces and since bamboo spreads by connected underground rhizomes, controlling and removing it is a challenge. Attend this workday and you will help to combat this aggressive non-native plant in the park as well as learn how to deal with it in your own neighborhood.
Workdays will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or snow, thunder and lightning, high winds, etc. Visit FOW’s Facebook page or the Upcoming Work Days page for updates. If the workday is cancelled it will be posted by 8 am.
