Work Day Information and Schedule
Work Day Tips:
1) All volunteers must sign the one-time volunteer agreement and release form. You can print it up, sign and bring with you to the work day, or we will have them available at the work day sign-in table.
2) Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
3) Please arrive on time for a short orientation, safety talk and tool training.
What to bring?
4) Sturdy boots/sneakers
5) Clothing that you don't mind getting dirty!
6) Your own reusable water bottle to help reduce the waste of disposable bottles and cups
7) Refreshments are provided at our Saturday volunteer days. Volunteers are always welcome to bring their own snacks.
Cancellation details for inclement weather
Typically we will work in a light rain or snow.
We will cancel a work day under inclement conditions such as heavy rain or snow, thunder and lighting, high winds, etc.
If conditions look uncertain the morning of the scheduled work day, check the FOW homepage. If the work day is cancelled it will be posted on the homepage by 8 am.

Saul Gully Re-Route

FOW’s next project of the Sustainable Trails Initiative is a re-route of the Yellow Trail near the Saul Agricultural School. Fairmount Park will be closing and re-vegetating the existing trail which has become a wide gully. FOW volunteers are undertaking a sustainable re-route of the trail. Please join us to learn the ins and outs of sustainable trail building!
Directions:
Meet at 9 am at Pachella Field at Henry Avenue and Livezey Street, 19128. Parking is available in the lot at Pachella Field (P-10 on the FOW Map). Volunteers are encouraged to bike or carpool to the event. If you arrive late, you will find us along the Yellow Trail north of Pachella Field near the Saul School. Follow the yellow volunteer signs. It is about ½ mile hike from Pachella Field to the work site. Volunteers are encouraged to bike or carpool to the event.
Devil’s Pool Clean Up
Saturday, August 21
9 am to 1 pm
FOW continues our clean up and outreach at Devil’s Pool! Please join us to help clean up and improve the stewardship of this beautiful gem of the park.
Directions:
Meet at the gated trailhead by the stone bridge across from Valley Green. Please DO NOT park in the lot next to Valley Green Inn, which is reserved for Inn customers. Please park in the lot on the Wise Mill Road side (P-7 on the FOW Map), the upper lot on the Valley Green Road Side (P-9 on the FOW Map), or street parking in nearby neighborhoods and walk down to Valley Green. Volunteers are encouraged to bike or carpool to the work day. If you arrive late, you will find us along the orange trail toward Devil’s Pool.
Continuing Saul Gully Re-Route and Trail Mainenance

9 am to 1 pm
We will work with Philly Mountain Biking Association to continue on the Saul re-route and do some trail maintenance on nearby trails!

Ongoing Volunteer Projects

Bring your enthusiasm and interest to these volunteer activities:
Friends of the Wissahickon leads a service project at various locations in the Park from 10 am to 2 pm. Projects include trail maintenance, invasive weed removal, planting and clean-ups. April through October volunteer days are typically held 3 to 4 Saturday per month. November thru March volunteer days are typically held 1-2 Saturdays per month.

Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers (WRV) lead a service project from 10
am– 12 noon as part of their on-going reforestation activities. Project details and directions to the worksite will be posted on the WRV website
( http://wissahickon.patrails.org ) at least one week prior to the event. For

Friends of the Wissahickon volunteers repair and build structures in the Wissahickon from 9:00 am to 1 pm. If you are handy with tools and like to build, call Ed Stainton at 215-247-2763.
Wissahickon Service Projects (September through May) 1 pm to 3 pm. Join Crefeld School, Friends of the Wissahickon and Fairmount Park. Something new every week. Call David Bower at 215-685-0120 for information.
Friends of the Wissahickon volunteers rebuild dry stone wall in the Wissahickon from 9:00 am to 1 pm. If you like to work with stones, call Dan Mercer at 215-280-0441.
Friends of the Wissahickon volunteers do repairs within the Wissahickon from 9:00 am to 1 pm. If you would like to help, call Ed Stainton at 215-247-2763.
Sierra Club and Hiking Around Philly sponsors a monthly trail work party from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. For details and place to meet, email Sidney Goldstein at sg@mrbasketball.net or call 215-247- 4459.
