Expanded Curfew Hours for Fairmount Park Areas

December 2012 - Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commissioner Michael DiBerardinis announced today that beginning December 3 and continuing through March 31, 2013, the Wissahickon Valley, West Fairmount Park, Cobbs Creek Park, and Pennypack Park areas of the Fairmount Park system will be closed daily from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.  All trails, parking lots, and other areas in these parks will be closed to all pedestrian, bicycle, equestrian, and vehicular traffic.

The expanded closing hours are being implemented to ensure public safety as deer control activities are being conducted in these parks.

Trail Collapse Near Walnut Lane

March 2012 - The Orange Trail between Hortter Street and Walnut Lane has been washed out during recent rains, and is now closed to all pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian traffic at the direction of the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Philadelphia Water Department. The Friends of the Wissahickon are working with both agencies to restore trail connectivity in this area as part of our Sustainable Trails Initiative.

Trail Closures Near RittenhouseTown

February 2012 - The portion of Forbidden Drive near 10-Box (where Forbidden Drive intersects Lincoln Drive), the footbridge at the south end of RittenhouseTown, and the trail connecting them will be closed due to emergency repair work being done on Lincoln Drive by the Philadelphia Streets Department. This work is expected to take two months, and there may also be periodic lane closures on Lincoln Drive during the project.
